Our first wreck-the-dress photo shoot

Ever heard of a wreck-the-dress photo shoot? Take your usual trash-the-dress shoot, throw a shipwreck in the mix, and voila!

We had the pleasure of doing our first Turks and Caicos wreck-the-dress shoot in January with a couple from California. You may remember ZD and AG from an earlier blog post. They’re fun, adventurous people who came to Providenciales to elope. And they were a perfect fit for an idea we had for a photo shoot involving an old shipwreck in the shallow waters of Long Bay.

The old rusted ship was beached by a hurricane several years ago and has since become a popular spot for boaters and kite surfers to visit. We thought it could be a beautiful location for a wedding photo shoot.

Two days after ZD and AG wedding, we arranged for a boat to take us out to the wreck to bring our idea to life. We had to climb to the top of the ship by some old netting hanging over the side before we carefully passed Zahiah’s wedding dress up. Rust has taken over most of the ship, so you also have to mind your step. But ZD and AG loved the adventure.

The juxtaposition of ZD’s beautiful white dress against the red, rusted ship, was even more stunning than we imagined. The couple also had planned on taking underwater photos on the day of their wedding, but the ocean was too rough. This was their opportunity, and they took it. Once we were done on the boat, they jumped in the ocean in their wedding clothes.

AG captured some footage of our first wreck-the-dress session with his drone . Thanks for a fun photo shoot, ZD and AG!

Thank you Richard Syme for your nautical assistance.

Underwater ‘trash’ the wedding dress

After twelve years of taking photos in the Turks and Caicos Islands, I still enjoy photographing couples and families around our beautiful islands – but one of the things I love most is when I get the chance to do an underwater ‘trash’ the wedding dress.

We don’t do this type of photo shoot very often, but when we do, we get very excited about it. We did our first trash the dress shoot in 2011, and we have done quite a few more since then.

Ashley and Kyle got married last year in their home state of Illinois. While planing their honeymoon to the Turks and Caicos, Ashley contacted us because she wanted to do a shoot around the islands – specifically an underwater shoot with her wedding dress.

On January 21st, I picked up Ashley and Kyle at the Alexandra Resort where they were staying. For the first part of the shoot, we went to Leeward Beach, and then to Bugaloo’s beach bar.

For the ‘trash’ the wedding dress part, we went to Malcolm’s Beach. This part of the island is well known for being a peaceful place with a rocky shore and vibrant blue seascape. The sea was a bit rough that day, but I was quite happy as the water was still very clear and it was the first time I had photographed a bride under the waves.

A fun engagement session

Just two days after the start of the new year I had the opportunity to photograph a fun engagement session around Provo.

Melissa and her fiancé Ian came to the Turks & Caicos to enjoy a well-deserved holiday and escape the frigid New York winter for a few days

While visiting the islands, Melissa and Ian decided to take the opportunity to get some engagement photos. They will have a destination wedding later this year in Mexico.

For the first part of their Beach Escape photo shoot, we went to the Bugaloo’s beach bar and restaurant to get some photos near the shallow waters of the Caicos banks and with some of the bright, colorful buildings that surround. For the second part, we went to one of my favorite beaches on Provo, Leeward Beach.

Here are just a few images from their engagement session…..

wedding at the Gansevoort Turks and Caicos

A few weeks ago I had the real pleasure to photograph a beautiful destination wedding at the Gansevoort Turks and Caicos.

Erin and Alex wanted to have a small wedding somewhere in the tropics with beautiful beaches and turquoise waters, and the Turks & Caicos Islands were the perfect location for them.

For their wedding day bride and groom decided to have their ceremony on Grace Bay beach , just next to the Gansevoort resort where they were staying.  After a fifteen minute ceremony and some photos everyone had a very relaxed dinner and cocktails on the beach with the stars and the ocean as an idyllic background

Teresa and her team from Tropical DMC did all the planning and decorations for the ceremony and reception. Here are a few photos from Erin and Alex’s wedding day…..

A colorful engagement session in Blue Hills

Most of the engagement sessions we shoot are normally around the Grace Bay area, but Kyle and Seana wanted do something a little different and more colorful. We decided to do their engagement session in Blue Hills – a quiet, laid-back part of the island that gives visitors a glimpse into what the island was like many years ago.

Seana and Kyle came to the Turks & Caicos for a short site visit to meet with some of the island wedding vendors to help them on for their coming destination wedding in March.

As part of their visit, they wanted to do a quick engagement session with us. On the day of the photo shoot, I picked them up at the Gansevoort Resort early in the morning and we made our way to Blue Hills.

During the shoot, we stopped at some of our favorite spots like da Conch Shack, an old dock and the colorful kids park.

Here are a few images from their shoot….

Cindy and Kelton’s 10th Wedding Anniversary at Parrot Cay

We make no secret of the fact that we love to shoot at Parrot Cay Resort by Como Hotels . It’s a gorgeous resort on it’s own private island with a beach that seems to go on forever. It’s grounds are also stunning with flame trees, big leaf palms,  and tree lined walkways that contrast against the white wooden walls, red roof tiles and hand laid stonework. Adding onto that a lovely couple like Cindy and Kelton celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary and it makes for an afternoon that is a struggle to call “work”.

Simple ,elegant, fun, low key, but full of smiles and laughter this was a true celebration.Read More »Cindy and Kelton’s 10th Wedding Anniversary at Parrot Cay
