When Derek Aitken approached Brilliant Studios with the intention of proposing to Sharon during a portrait session, he wanted to create something both special and memorable. Whisking her away for a romantic retreat to the Turks and Caicos certainly goes a long way towards making special memories. Having never been to the island before, Derek was looking forward to being taken around with Sharon on the tropical island destination he had chosen to propose on.
Several hours before the shoot I went down to Leeward beach to look for a shell which would hold the ring being presented to Sharon. While down on the beach a young lady approached after noticing that I was obviously on the lookout for a shell. It turns out that her and her husband were married a couple days prior and Chanelle was their photographer. When I explained the reason behind searching for the shell, she offered me one she had found. It was perfect.
With Sharon non the wiser, we managed to have a great time traveling to several locations keeping Derek’s intention a secret. We waited until we reached the seclusion of Leeward Beach before Derek got down on one knee and asked the all important question with the help of a strategically placed shell. By the look on her face, Sharon was caught unawares, but had no hesitation in saying yes.
Having pulled out all the stops, Derek topped the afternoon off with a bottle of champagne to celebrate a successful afternoon and we continued with the photoshoot, but now with Sharon as his beautiful fiance. What a great day out!
