First destination wedding on South Caicos

We were delighted to find out that Brilliant Studios was going to be photographing the first destination wedding on a small uninhabited island called Long Cay, just a short distance from South Caicos.

After a very short flight from Providenciales, we arrived in South Caicos and met with the Bride and Groom, Rachel and Markus, at the East Bay Resort. This beautiful resort has not long been open and is located on a stunning stretch of beach. While Marcus and his two young sons got ready together, Rachel got ready with her sister. This was a small destination wedding with just seven guests including Marcus’ parents who came all the way from Germany.

Another first for us, as well for Rachel and Markus and their guests, was being taken to the ceremony on Long Cay by hovercraft! The smooth ride dropped us in no time straight onto the sand – we didn’t even get our feet wet. The wedding ceremony actually took place on a small cliff with stunning views of the shallow banks on one side and the deeper water of the Atlantic on the other.

After the beautiful ceremony with a local minister we had time to take photos around the Cay where we could have spent an entire day as there were so many cool spots! We had the perfect contrast of shallow and deep water with rocky terrain on one side and white sand on the other. This perfect background is not as easy to come by on Provo so we made the most of it by taking lots of pictures.

We returned by hovercraft to the East Bay resort where we took more photographs on the beach before everyone headed back to their rooms to freshen up. As the sun was setting we took some great pictures of the bride and groom and the kids before meeting the rest of the party at a private gazebo for a very relaxed wedding reception.

Many thanks to: East Bay Resort. Wedding planner: Audra  Simmons. Officiant: Pastor John Malcolm. Hovercraft operated by Cherif Benchalal. Airline used from Providenciales to South Caicos: inter Caribbean Airways.

Megan and Jon’s fun wedding at Beaches Resort & Spa.

Even though we’ve helped with hundreds weddings at Beaches Resort & Spa over the years every wedding is different and unique. It’s easy to say that all weddings follow the same pattern, have similar moments and at popular resorts they use the same locations, same ceremony areas, same ministers saying the same vows as last week. Boring right? Well no ! Especially when you have couples like Megan and Jon, with a wild and fun loving group of friends and family who are delighted to help them celebrate this special day.

A wedding at Beahces can happen at any time of day, unlike at other resorts where they only have one a day and tend to have them 90 minutes before sunset or so. Whilst a ceremony at 1pm is hot, hot, hot and has very unforgiving light (for photography), it also means, vivid colours, colourful backdrops and stunning blue water.

Turks and Caicos trash the wedding dress

After capturing two wedding ceremonies on two different days with Katlyn and Neil, we met once more but this time it was for a very different type of photo shoot; an underwater ‘trash the wedding dress’.

We don’t normally get the chance to capture these types of images very often, but when we do, we love it! Swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Turks & Caicos plus taking underwater photos is just amazing and lots of fun.

For the photo shoot we went to Smith’s Reef near Turtle Cove Marina. The water that day was flat calm and super clear…add to that a good looking couple and you have the perfect combination for some beautiful images!

Liz & Chris’s wedding at West Bay Club

Liz and Chris always wanted to do a destination wedding. After searching around a few different islands, they found the perfect destination – the Turks & Caicos Islands. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding at West Bay Club.

Now managed by the Grace Bay Club, West Bay Club is located at the quieter end of Grace Bay, making it the perfect location for a beach wedding.

So at just a stone’s throw from the resort, Liz and Chris celebrated their marriage ceremony on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches and following a few cocktails at the beach bar, they moved back into the resort for the wedding reception.
It was a fun night with great people and lots of dancing and laughter. At the end of the evening, everyone moved back onto the beach to watch a fire dancer performing in the sand.

Here are some images from the session…
