Island time in Turks and Caicos

We helped Teresa and Paul with a family photo shoot a few years ago and they were back again recently along with a family friend. We helped them with one of our favorite photo shoots – the island escape. This shoot gives us a lot more time to play and allows us to show off some really fun places on Providenciales. We picked them up from Beaches Resort and headed around the island making a few stops in places we like to shoot. We even stopped off at the fun Bugaloo’s for a cocktail or two before heading off to the beach. It was really good to catch up with this great family and hear about what they have been doing and what they have coming up. Luke’s baseball career is certainly going to be one to watch! A great afternoon to sample some real Turks and Caicos island life. relaxed, easy and fun.

Family fun at Villa Cascade

Villa Cascade on Providenciales, Turks and Caicos is a brand new villa. I mean really new! Frank and Melanie and their lovely family were the second only vacationers to rent this stunning villa. Wow! Set on a beautiful hilltop with amazing views of the ocean and Grace Bay in the distance, its a stunning villa designed by our favorite architect Ron Shaw. With  some lovely garden areas and a small but private beach at the bottom of the villa, it was perfect to do the whole shoot right at the villa. We started off with a few easy pictures of all the kids and grandma, so she didn’t have to walk up and down the steps to the beach. The kids aged from 16 to 3 were fabulous and I LOVE the fact that everyone wore what they wanted to wear rather than being in all khaki and white. For me personally it just makes this a fun time and not a “let’s pose” family picture thing. With 6 kids it was quite a challenge to capture everyone and mum and dad and a few candid moments all before the sun set. Time flew by. So great to help this awesome family with a few family pictures. Read More »Family fun at Villa Cascade

An island farewell.

One of the harder parts of “island life” is the constant flow of people on and off the island. Hotel contracts, projects all start and then end. “Mr Toby” and “Miss Hellen” have been a fabulous teachers at Provo Primary for several years now and have both been mainstays of island life. They are now heading back to the UK with a promotion (Head Teacher for Toby) and new challenges for sure, but it was great to be asked by the school to help them capture a few last minute beach family moments before they left. Being asked to do these kinds of shoots is rewarding to us in its own right, but helping this lovely family was always going to be fun. Owen started off a little grumpy and not so sure of the beach and sand, but within a few minutes was chasing dogs down the beach, building rock towers and having a ball on dad’s shoulders. The island is lesser place for their leaving, but we wish them all the very best back in the cold and soon to be chilly north 😉 I am sure they will be back to visit !

Family photo shoot at grace bay club

We are entering our peak family photo season for Turks and Caicos as schools in the USA start to have graduations and break for the long summer holiday. Catching up with Jennifer and Andrew and their two boys last week on their first visit to Turks at the Grace Bay Club was a lot of fun. It’s always great to meet people who have never been here before and listen to what they  (love!) about the island.  It’s amazing to me after being here almost 20 years that it’s still the same key ingredients – the beach, the water, the people. The boys clearly loved it. Full of energy as are all 6 and 9 year olds we ran, jumped, played and told bad jokes. We hung out on the beach and waited for the sun to dip down and probably got a little too wet and sandy for the dinner reservation afterwards, but we had a blast! I’ve never seen such cool “high kicks” – these guys were true ninjas!

A baby and Engagement beach escape !

Jayne, Alex, Gina and Carlo all love to travel together. With a new toddler/ baby in the mix and now also Jayne and Alex getting engaged, abeach escape photo shoot was a great way to catch some “first steps” and engagement pictures. So with a couple of cocktails in hand we headed off for our classic beach escape. With the trade winds blowing we found a couple of sheltered spots before going to some of our fav locations and then ending up at Sapodilla Bay for a classic sunset setting almost right over the water. It’s also a lot less windy on the south-side of the island – so that helped a lot with hair ! It was quite a challenge to switch from engagement mode to baby mode back and forth and I was concerned that I might loose any rapport built up…but we kept things loose and easy going and managed to capture some great moments and pictures.  Be sure to checkout the last sunset shot – WOW!!Read More »A baby and Engagement beach escape !

family photo shoot – Turks and Caicos style.

An easy peasy family photo shoot?  I see it in the faces of parents all the time. The concern, the worry, the anxiousness that after all the preparations, getting ready, choosing outfits, arranging nap times and snacks, once in-front of the camera the little ones will “melt down” and not co-operate….Hand on heart – in the last 20 years I’ve never seen it happen. I cannot remember it happening. Maybe I’ve just “blanked it out ”  😉 As I arrived at Royal West Indies Resort last week the smiling face of Sofia peered back at me through the glass doors of the hotel lobby… CUTE!!  This was going to be fun !
